since the reform and opening up, the adhesive industry has been in a sustained high-speed state, and has also made great contributions to china's production and manufacturing. the automotive industry is an important beneficiary project in the development of the adhesive industry. with the increasing demand for environmental protection and energy conservation in the automotive industry, there will be three major development directions for automotive adhesives in the future.


1、 use lighter adhesive or sealant materials


the automotive industry faces significant pressure in manufacturing lightweight vehicles, reducing fuel consumption, and alleviating environmental burdens. this is a challenge for automotive designers. in the automotive industry, adopting lightweight structures provides a solution for developing more economical and environmentally friendly vehicles. the more lightweight materials such as aluminum are used to replace steel components, the lighter the weight of the car, and the better the fuel saving and emission reduction effect. at the same time, it can also improve the driving performance of the car. one way to deal with this is to pre treat and bond different lightweight materials to create the car body. for drivers, using adhesive to bond joints also has safety advantages, as these joints can absorb a significant amount of impact energy in the event of a car collision. at present, lightweight adhesive or sealant materials such as low-density pvc weld sealant and low-density pvc anti stone impact coating have been developed.



2、 green and environmentally friendly adhesive or sealant materials


the continuous further development ensures that the pre-treatment process can be continuously optimized in terms of quality and environmental protection: reducing energy consumption and chemical use, such as fluoride or nitrite, which is later switched to use, thereby helping car manufacturers adopt sustainable manufacturing methods. the use of water-based coatings can replace the widely used pvc plastic sol and asphalt based damping plates in vehicles, with great application prospects.


eliminating nitrite can prevent the release of nitrogen oxides and significantly improve workplace health and safety. similarly, the wastewater generated in this process does not require further detoxification treatment. the significant reduction in the amount of phosphate sludge can have a positive impact on the reduction of waste footprint, as well as help to lower treatment costs and reduce cleaning of processing plants.  


3、 use wet to wet pvc sealant


the wet to wet process is that the pvc sealing material does not go through the pre curing (pre gel) process, but directly applies coating on the surface of the wet pvc material. this process requires pvc sealant to have good compatibility with the intermediate coating.


a two-stage process for the pre-treatment of mixed material vehicle bodies has been developed for environmentally friendly and corrosion-resistant protection in the two-stage process. in this staged process, a phosphating layer is no longer formed on the aluminum material, while traditional phosphating can be performed on steel and galvanized steel materials.


by dividing the transformation process into two stages, only in the second stage after passivation, aluminum materials achieve the best preliminary treatment effect by forming a zirconium based transformation layer. this process ensures that the vehicle body has high-quality corrosion resistance and excellent paint adhesion. the use of wet on wet pvc sealant in vehicle assembly has many advantages: the adhesive can increase the rigidity of the car, seal joints, reduce welding, and improve the corrosion resistance of the car. in addition, the special adhesives used in vehicle body construction and final assembly also help reduce noise and so on.
